▷ Establishment of a resource recycling industrial zone and water supply and sewage projects in Vietnam, highly acclaimed by the Vietnamese Prime Minister, led by the Ministry of Environment
The Ministry of Environment (Minister Kim Wansup) announced plans to dispatch a Green Industry Support Task Force (led by Ahn Se-chang, Deputy Minister of Climate Change and Carbon Neutral Policy Office) to Vietnam from November 26 to 28 to establish a cooperative system to enable domestic companies to enter the Vietnamese green industry market.
The Task Force plans to hold a high-level meeting and forum on the theme of Korea-Vietnam cooperation in water supply and sewage systems and the establishment of a resource recycling industrial zone (RPIZ) on November 27 in Vinh Phuc Province, near Hanoi, with the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction.
The Task Force plans to inform the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction about the Ministry of Environment’s policies and technologies related to the establishment of the Act on Water Supply and Sewage, which is being promoted with the support from Korea, through high-level meetings, thereby creating conditions for domestic companies to proactively enter the Vietnamese water supply and sewage market.
At this high-level meeting and forum on water supply and sewage, the opening remarks will be made by Nguyen Tuong Van, the Vice Minister of the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction, followed by a congratulatory speech by Ahn Se-chang, Deputy Minister of Climate Change and Carbon Neutral Policy Office at the Ministry of Environment, after which the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction will present the progress of the establishment of their country’s Act on Water Supply and Sewage.
Afterward, the Korea Environment Corporation, K-water, Korea Water and Wastewater Works Association, and Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute will introduce various aspects of the water industry, including domestic water supply and sewage policies and technical standards.
Immediately after this event, Deputy Minister Ahn Se-chang is expected to request active cooperation from the Vietnamese Vice Minister of Construction in discovering new cooperation projects in water supply and sewage, as well as in the entry of domestic companies, such as K-water, into the Vietnamese water industry market.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment plans to hold follow-up discussions with relevant officials at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in Hanoi, Vietnam, regarding the establishment of RPIZ in Vietnam.
The RPIZ in Vietnam is a circular economy initiative led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish this industrial zone was signed between the ministers of both countries in the presence of the two prime ministers on July 2 of 2024.
The RPIZ in Vietnam is expected to serve as a resource circulation complex involving both Korean and local Vietnamese companies. It will not only play a role in the stable processing of local waste and the promotion of recycling infrastructure but is also anticipated to serve as a platform for mutual exchanges with local Vietnamese businesses and to showcase Korea’s excellent technologies in the resource circulation sector.
In addition, Deputy Minister Ahn Se-chang plans to attend the MOU signing ceremonies between companies from both countries, such as the collaboration on energy savings for commercial facilities based on waste heat (EMG-CHARM VIT GROUP) and the cooperation on waste oil recycling (Eco Oil-VINHOMES), and promise government-level support.
Deputy Minister Ahn Se-chang stated, “Vietnam is a strategic hub in the Southeast Asian green industry market and is the optimal market for domestic companies to enter, especially in areas such as water supply and sewage and waste energy conversion.” He added, “The Ministry will take the lead in identifying projects and creating business opportunities for the private sector to provide the best support for domestic companies to smoothly enter overseas markets.”
