Ministry of Environment developed the cyber environment monitoring system where housewives can participate as members of the eco-monitoring group to provide practical opinions and strategies learned from real life experiences. The system aims to gain feedbacks from the citizens through various surveys, resulting in sufficient reflection of citizen’s opinions in the political framework.

The eco-monitors will be required to perform onsite surveys on citizen’s environmental compliances and complaints, as well as the implementation status of the environmental policy. Once the monitors complete the surveys and input the outcomes via Internet (at www.eco-monitor.org), the system will automatically work out the statistics and analysis, reporting back to the Ministry.

This cyber system is expected to provide an effective environment monitoring, whereas past systems through research agencies and civil environmental groups faced challenges due to high budget and inadequate handling of extensive amount of information Furthermore, it will serve as a significant venue for promoting citizen’s prominent participations in developing the concrete framework of environmental policies.

MOE is recruiting 2000 eco-monitors from July 28 to August 27 though the Ministry’s homepage (www.me.go.kr), or the monitoring system’s homepage (www.eco-monitor.org)
