The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment (MCEE, Minister Kim Sungwhan) announced that it will hold the inaugural meeting of the Working-Level Consultative Body on Power Supply for the Honam Semiconductor Industrial Complex on the afternoon of July 29 at the Han River Flood Control Office (located in Seocho-gu, Seoul), with participation from local governments, the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), and private companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix.

The inaugural meeting follows up on discussions held on July 16 between the MCEE, the Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City, and the KEPCO on power supply measures for the Honam semiconductor industrial complex, during which a provisional plan was prepared to ensure the timely construction of the first-phase power transmission line.

To further develop the previously prepared provisional plan and discuss areas of cooperation among the relevant organizations, the government established a working-level consultative body comprising the Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City (including Gwangsan-gu and Jangseong-gun), the KEPCO, and major private-sector companies (Samsung Electronics and SK hynix).

At the inaugural meeting, participants will hold working-level discussions on detailed power supply measures, with particular focus on the permitting and approval support required from local governments and the River Basin (Regional) Environmental Offices to accelerate construction of the first-phase power transmission line.

Going forward, the government plans to use the working-level consultative body to discuss interagency coordination needed to accelerate the project, as well as measures to expedite the permitting and approval process.

The government will fully mobilize the capabilities of both public institutions and private companies to ensure the timely supply of power to the semiconductor industrial complex.”
