Effective from January 1, 2005, the government will prohibit food waste from being treated at the landfill sites. This measure is to prevent needless disposal of resources as well as sanitary problems caused by insects.

As a preparation for the new policy on food waste, public and private disposal facilities were expanded in stages, to the current capacity of disposing 76% of total daily food waste. More concretely, the government plans to markedly increase next year’s investment in food waste disposal facilities by US $ 22 million, aiming at further expansions of the disposal facilities and special vehicles for collecting food waste.
