The 1st CEO Forum on the Globalization of Sustainable Business Management

The First CEO Forum on the Globalization of Sustainable Business Management took place on 2 June 2004 at the Center for Education and Culture, Seoul.
CEOs from over one hundred of the leading corporations in Korea, and governmental representatives including Minister Kwak, Kyul-Ho and Mr. Ko Chul Hwan, the Chairman of the Presidential Commission on Sustainable Development, participated at the forum to share policy statements and key ideas for promoting sustainable business management. Tangibly, the Declaration on the Globalization of Sustainable Business Management was introduced at the forum for signing by all participating CEOs as an expression of commitment to make faithful actions towards the realization of sustainable development.

Declaration on the Globalization of Sustainable Business Management

Environmental sustainability is the source of both national and business competitiveness in the 21st Century and is essential for environmental preservation and raising the quality of life. Recognizing this, industries and the government commit to making joint efforts as follows in order to strengthen national and business competitiveness at the international level and to raise the efficiency of environmental policies through the globalization of sustainable business management.

Make sustainable business management the essential management direction for all business activities and establish detailed implementation strategies in order to realize such a goal throughout the industrial/business sector

Play a leading role in establishing sustainable production and consumption patterns by encouraging environment-friendly production systems and raising the environmental soundness of products

Promote communication and strengthen partnerships among various stakeholders, including consumers, regional constituents, and civil groups, for the creation of a sustainable society

Take the lead in developing techniques for globally competitive sustainable management in order to secure a leadership position in sustainable development, and actively participate in international efforts for environmental preservation

The government shall provide both an institutional framework and policy support necessary for the establishment and dissemination of sustainable business management
