Drivers should pay for the recycling expenses when their cars are scrapped from this July in England. For the cars produced after July 2002, the producers will pay the expenses.

- This policy complies with the European Union's decision to increase recycling of scrapped cars at 95% by 2015. This is expected to influence the policies of Germany and France.

- Japan already decided to establish Vehicle Recycling Act in April 2002, which expected to be put in force from 2004.

China sets the target of 10% reduction of air pollutant emission by 2005 compared to 2000

- Chinese government has invested 700 billion yuan (85 billion USD) from 2001 to 2005 for accomplishing this target.

- Chinese government established environmental policy structures that fitted in the socialist market economy, and had reduced 15% of total air pollution in 2000 compared to the level of 1995.

The most urgent environmental demand in Vietnam is safe drinking water.

- Northern areas, including the Capital Hanoi, has abundant quantity of water, but contains too much chalybeate.

- Most of people use underground water of which treatment solely depends on natural sedimentation. Due to this non-properly treated water, people with discolored teeth are commonly found.

- This unsafe water threatens the people's health. To solve the immediate demands on safe water, prompt introduction of portable waterwork is needed.
