People who are planning to go on a mountain climbing during the month of March and April, which is the thawing season in Korea, should pay extra special attention to safety protection.

The Korea National Parks Authority(KNPA) issued a warning for mountain climbers that during the thawing season, sudden melting of snow and ice causes the park trails to be very slippery, and there are frequent arising accidents from slips and falls. KNPA revealed that during the thawing season last year, 47 people were injured and 2 people died from the accidents while trailing along or climbing the mountains in some of the National Parks.

To avoid the accidents, people should attach climbing irons to their boots and prepare extra warm clothing. Also, it is advised to always go together with others on the designated trails, while paying extra attention to slippery areas. To prepare for the emergency situations, people should always carry compression bandages, an antiseptic agent as well as other medicines.
