70 senior-level officials and environmental experts will go on a two-day retreat to Incheon, to discuss issues regarding environmental policy directions for the new participatory government.

The joint discussion forum for "Sustainable Development and Promotion of Sound Environment" which is a nationwide environmental policy project for the 2003 new participatory government, will be held at the National Institute of Environmental Research, from March 14 to 15.

The 6 topics are on the agenda are, implementation of environment-friendly measures for national land management, improvement plans for environmental regulation standards, environmental charge systems, plans for coping with major national policies, as well as methods for raising environmental administrative capacity.

The Discussion Forum will provide an opportunity for environmental experts and administrative officials to join together for implementation of environmental policies and providing solutions for environmental problems. The Ministry of Environment expects the outcomes of the Discussion to provide a substantial background for successful implementation of major environmental policies for the new participatory government. Also it will promote active discussion atmosphere among all members of the Ministry.
